Life Lately :: How Is It Already May?!

I am past the boot-wearing phase. Now that we’ve had some warmer days, I’ve broken out the sandals and I can’t go back, so if you see me out and about on a rainy, 50 degree day wearing my flip flops you now know why. I just can’t.
But summer is just around the corner, y’all! My second summer with a baby (I guess toddler technically) and I can’t wait! But before I get too caught up in backyard bbq’s, pool days, and tan lines, I wanted to share some pictures of our life from the past few months. Bend 17-6Every spring we try to make it over to Sunriver where my grandparents have a house (You can see one of our previous trips here). This year was a little bit different considering Olive could run around and enjoy all the fun stuff happening outside. We spent the weekend playing games, eating, shopping, and eating, with a LOT of rest time in between.Bend 17-10This picture slays me. That smirk, those eyes, and that peaceful look about her that exudes genuine love. I could stare at it for hoooouuurrs.Bend 17-17Bend 17-24Bend 17-12Bend 17-14Bend 17-25Bend 17-35That in her hand is an owl keychain that her daddy bought for her at the Village and she carried it with her that whole weekend. She pointed to it in the shop and with the sweetest voice looked at him and said, “baa?” which translated to english means “please”. James then looks at me and I swear he was about to melt into a puddle right then and there. I like it when he’s soft.
Bend 17-39Bend 17Bend 17-2Then it was Easter! I made the mistake of looking back at last years Easter pictures when Olive was 3 MONTHS OLD (what the heck?!)
And being almost 16 months now she was ready to hunt for easter in eggs in the back yard with us. She had a cute little basket to put eggs in but who needs a basket when you can just have your daddy follow you around and carry them for you? The girl already knows how to delegate and I have to take credit for that.  easter 17-14The dress that she wore was one I had bought while I was pregnant. We were at the Gap outlet and I saw it from across the way and I had. to. have. it.
You know I love me some polka dots.
easter 17-9easter 17-16This picture makes me really, really happy.easter 17-2Oh, and we got chickens! These are the best things that have ever happened to us. At least that’s how Olive feels. Not only do they provide lots (and lots) of delicious eggs but they are a great diversion when the 5:00 meltdowns begin. easter 17-19These lovely egg-laying beauties have been one of the things that has kickstarted a strong desire to use the space we have to grow and produce as much of our own food as we can. Our own little urban homestead, if you will. This spring I have been a machine in the backyard; tearing out flower beds (which we have a LOT to tear out), building garden boxes and compost bins, and planning, planning, planning. This is a good exercise for me in patience, discipline, and diligence but I am loving every step of it. I’m planning on doing a post about what I dream of doing with our space and go into more of the why so stay tuned!

Happy Monday!

P.S. On this day FOUR years ago James proposed to me. How has it been four years?! It’s gone so fast yet at the same time I feel like we are an old married couple who makes fun of each other all the time but never stops holding hands. I love this man. JamesSharayaProposal (9 of 66)JamesSharayaProposal (11 of 66)JamesSharayaProposal (14 of 66)Ok, now for reals, go have a happy Monday!

The Office is Finished!

After much planning and hard work, the office is finally done! What kickstarted this project was the fact that James was going to start working from home more. I wanted him to be able to have a space that was creative and more on the masculine side.
First off, we painted all the walls a dark blue/grey (Calligraphy by Behr). I can’t tell you how much I love this color! It still keeps the room feeling bright while adding a nice contrast to the rest of the house.
Before I go into the biggest part of this transformation, here’s some pictures of a cute baby writing on a chalkboard:
To give you an idea of where we started, here is what the room looked like about a year after we had moved in: This just became the “catch-all” room and the door pretty much stayed closed all the time and you can see why.But now door can stay open! Except when Olive is awake because she likes to crawl behind the computer.
Ok so this desk. This amazing desk. Originally it was just going to be in this corner shown below and stop at about the middle of the window. But then my BIL had the brilliant idea to extend the desk all the way to the other corner of the room so that I could have MY own space (above). I know, I have the best brother-in-law.
He made the desk by securing sheets of plywood to the walls with wooden brackets underneath. Then James cut all these pieces that are on the top, stained them (which is the part I helped with) and glued them to the plywood creating this really sturdy, rustic-looking surface. It looks incredible in person. The stain is “Dark Walnut” by Minwax. The Wonder Camera poster is from Paper Source and the frame as well as the lamp are IKEA On the other side of the room I just wanted wall to wall shelves to hold all my home/party/crafting supplies. This is the definition of organized chaos. Annnnnnnd another picture of a cute baby by a chalkboard.

Our Trip to Waco

waco-32 If you follow me on Instagram, you know about the magical place that I went to this week that is the Magnolia Silos. I can still hear the music playing outside, the smells coming from the bakery, and friendly faces of everyone who works there.
Our hotel was less than five minutes from the market and I lost count of how many trips we made back and forth. We also took walks along the Brazos River, visited Harp Design Co., and ate reeeaaalllllly yummy food. waco-51 waco-50 waco-49 waco-48 waco-46 waco-45 waco-44 waco-28 waco-33Almost every morning consisted of getting to the bakery by 9:30, munch on our goodies until the Common Grounds coffee stand opened at 10:00 and we got our Cowboy Coffee (SO GOOD!), then walk through the market again. waco-42 waco-40This cupcake. The one named “Cup of Jo”. Chocolate cupcake with espresso buttercream frosting. I don’t know if I can ever eat another cupcake again because they will all be subpar to this one. waco-41 waco-39 waco-43 waco-38It was sunny and beautiful all the other days we were there but rained on the day I decided to take pictures…however it meant that we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves! waco-37 waco-35 waco-34 waco-31 waco-30 waco-29 waco-27 waco-26 waco-25 waco-24 waco-23 waco-22 waco-21 waco-20 waco-19 waco-18There was so much attention to detail, it was incredible. They didn’t skimp on anything and you can tell. Everything from the fences to the line stanchions were well thought out design-wise and super high quality.  waco-17 waco-16 waco-15 waco-14 waco-13 waco-12 waco-11 waco-10 waco-9 waco-8 waco-7 waco-6 waco-5 waco-4 waco-3That gap!! It kills me!!
She was an amazing traveler, I can’t imagine her being any better. I also left this trip feeling grateful that I have a mom who I can work with everyday AND vacation with. That says a lot. waco-2If you are wondering if it was worth it to fly 3 1/2 hours to Dallas then drive two hours to Waco with a ten month old and do it again a few days later just to go to a “store”…yes, a million times, yes. Yes.

Olive + Lopez

It has been a long time since I’ve written a personal post!
This summer we made another trip up to Lopez Island in the San Juan’s. However, this time we got to take Olive! Ever since we were dating James talked about how he couldn’t wait to bring our kids up here to experience what he got to as a child.
We explored new parts of the Island and some old favorites but the week mostly consisted of card games, snacks, and naps. It was perfection.
Also, this was like three months ago before my baby was crawling everywhere so she’s chubbier than she is now it makes me realize how fast time goes and nobody wants to be reminded of that! lop16-44lb16lop16-3lop16-5lop16-2lop16-6lop16-7lop16-24lb162lop16-15lop16-17lop16-16lop16-25lop16-27lop16-28lop16-31lop16-41lop16-39lop16-43lop16-46lop16-47lop16-40

Meet Olive James

View More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-oliveThe other day I was in the shower and it hit me; I gave birth to a child. I did that. Not somebody I know, not someone I read about on a blog, ME! It was/is a weird and deeply rewarding feeling. Our Miss Olive joined our family on December 23rd at 10:56am.

We had an appointment on her due date which was the 22nd and my blood pressure was elevated. My doctor asked how we felt about being induced. She said my body was ready but it just needed some help getting started. At that point I was so ready to be done that I didn’t care how she came out as long as she did very. very. soon.

We drove home knowing we were going to come back to the hospital that night to have a baby. It was the longest seven hours of our lives. Luckily, we had my SIL, BIL, and niece come over to help keep us entertained while we waited. I’m so grateful she was there to capture these last few hours of me being pregnant.

Well apparently the pill was all I needed because I went into labor on my own at 3am. Seven hours of labor and 20 minutes of pushing later, she was here! It really was an amazing experience that could not have been any more perfect. View More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalView More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/baby-olive-hospitalIt’s really true when they say you don’t remember what life was like before you had a baby. It’s like she’s been with us forever (in a good way). She’s constantly making us smile and I can’t even begin to count how many times a day we look at her and say, “Oh my gosh, she’s just so cute”.

At this point she’s already a month old and I can’t even believe it! All through my pregnancy I prayed peace and joy over her and that’s exactly who she is. She’s a happy, content baby who loves to snuggle. We love our Olive so very much!

God Is Funny

At the beginning of the year, I had no idea what direction our life was going to go. The only thing we knew was going to happen was our European cruise but other than that, all was up in the air. My job was going to change, James’s job was possibly changing, we were going to try and start buying our house, we were going to start trying for a baby…nothing was for sure. For all we knew none of that was even going to happen this year. Then, everything happened all at once. I had a plan for work, James changed positions, we just bought our house, and…we are expecting our first baby!
View More: http://renascentphotography.pass.us/james-sharaya-engagedLike I said, the only thing we knew would happen was our trip in May. Our plan was for me to get off birth control at the end of March, let my body adjust back to normal for the month of April, then get pregnant sometime during or after our cruise. Anyone who knows me knows that I have been wanting to be pregnant/ have a baby since I was 16. But this one time, this ONE TIME I didn’t want to get pregnant right away because I didn’t want to risk being sick on our trip and let’s be honest, I like me a cocktail and white wine. I thought for sure it wouldn’t happen that fast.

When I took a pregnancy test, I was so prepared for it to be negative that I didn’t even wait for James to get home to take it. All I remember after seeing that plus sign quickly pop up is saying “oh my gosh” over and over really fast. I walked out into the living room and back into the bathroom a few times, unsure of what my next step should be. I then decided I needed more proof. I hopped in my car, headed to Safeway, and picked up a box of the Clearblue digital pregnancy tests (you know, the ones that actually say “pregnant” or “not pregnant”) and a couple avocados because I mean, how awkward to go in and buy just a pregnancy test…

Shortly after I got back, James got home from work. I showed him the first pregnancy test. His first words were, “I knew it.” I didn’t want to get my hopes up too much so I kept saying, “Well we don’t know for sure yet, it could be a false positive! Or maybe I’m reading the test wrong!” I chugged a bunch of water and took the heavy duty test. Pregnant. After that, we were both surprisingly calm. Mostly because we were in shock and our brains could not process what just happened.ScanI’m pretty sure we were in that state of shock up until our 20 week appointment. For me it really hit when I could see her actually moving around during the ultra sound. At one point she even turned her head to look at us! She looked like a real baby!
For James, I think it sunk in more once we opened the envelope and found out it was a girl. He now talks like she’s already here and asks me how she’s doing. When she started moving around a lot more he kept asking if he could feel her. I hadn’t even felt her move from the outside but one night I told him he could try. Not even 10 seconds after he put his hand on belly, she kicked harder than I had ever felt her. The moment was perfect, his reaction was perfect, it took everything in me to not let the hormones take over and start balling.

Now at 24 weeks, I’m starting to get anxious for December. I can’t wait to hold her and smell her. I can’t wait to see what she looks like and whose eyes and nose she has. I can’t wait to watch James hold her and talk to her. Most of all, I can’t wait to be her mama.

Our Europe Trip

We’re back!!

In case you missed this post, James and I went on a 12 night cruise through the Mediterranean and made stops in Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. It was such an incredible trip and I am so excited to finally share our photos with you!
